I'm not sure we use the term "midlife crisis" anymore, but if we do, Vacationland may be in the midst of one.

Traditionally such a period in one's life is a phase signifying a period of dread, disappointment, self-doubt and a general fear that the verities of the past have led only to a bleak future. This is when the song, "Is that all there is?", kicks in.

The latest results of a study of Maine tourism that has been conducted annually for the better part of a decade now show an industry that is stuck in the mud.
