An American software company is to almost triple the workforce at its offices in Belfast.

Wombat Financial Software is creating 77 jobs at its base on the Dublin Road as part of a £2m expansion.

Invest Northern Ireland will provide almost half of the money. The jobs are in areas including software development and service operations.

The company established its Belfast office in 2005 and currently employs 45 people there.

It develops advanced software to supply stock exchange data to financial institutions at high speed.

Economy Minister Nigel Dodds welcomed the expansion.

"Wombat's decision to reinvest here underlines the firm's confidence in Northern Ireland and the specialist skills which are available here.

"It also further strengthens the local financial services sector, a key target area for growth and investment," he said.

Wombat's Danny Moore said: "Our experience in Belfast has been extremely positive with highly skilled software engineers and our proximity to Europe helping us to grow and sustain our business.
