There is no escape from advertising, not even in outer space. One plucky American Congressman has introduced legislation that would allow NASA ( publicly-funded organization) to sell advertising space. Would this include the NASCAR-esque plastering of logos across the spacecraft itself? Corporate logo patches on spacesuits?
At present, NASA is not permitted to carry advertising: it is a publicly-funded organization, and selling advertising space is a commercial business. But Congressman Ken Calvert has introduced a bill that would change that, allowing the space agency to sell the blank spaces on its kit to sponsors.
The most vocal opposition so far has been from a private aerospace group that wants to provide its own in-space advertising.
