THE effectiveness of speed cameras in helping to cut road accidents will be scrutinised by a new group.
The county-wide group will examine the impact of the county's 40 speed cameras and how far they go in reducing accidents.
An average of 80,000 people are caught speeding by the Northamptonshire county cameras, although that figure has dropped significantly since safety cameraswere first installed six years ago, when 100,000 motorists were issued with tickets.
The working group has been set up by the county council and wants to hear the views of people and organisations interested in road safety.
Don Powell, of the county's safety camera partnership, said that cameras in the Evening Telegraph area have had a significant impact.
In the three years before a camera was installed in Oakley Road, Corby, there were 12 serious accidents.
In the three years since, there have been four.
Mr Powell said: "It shows there's been a significant reduction. .
