Who Will Be This Year’s NBA #1 Draft Pick?

Who will it be?  For all the fans that are not aware yet it will be none other than Oklahoma Sooner’s Sophomore Blake Griffin.  He stands tall at a height of 6 feet 10 inches and a weight of 251 pounds.  With only having two years of experience of College basketball, he completed his 2008-2009 season with impressive stats: averaging 22.7 points per game and 14.4 rebounds per game.  But, the question is does Griffin have a bright future in the NBA?

Well, first of all the 2009 NBA Draft being only 2 days away, the L.A. Clippers hold the number 1 pick and it seems that the Clippers have no plan of giving up their pick.  This was confirmed on Monday by the Clippers assistant general manager, Neil Olshey, who said that “the pick’s not going anywhere,” (Associated Press, 2009, p. 1).  Therefore, Griffin is likely headed to the L.A. Clippers.  Most people can agree that the Clippers need someone to help them improve their record next season, because they finished with a very poor record this season with only 19 wins and 63 losses.  The only other team that the Clippers finished above was the Sacramento Kings, who had one less win and one more loss than the Clippers this season.

But, will Griffin make as big of an impact as Lebron James did, only time will tell.  One thing is for sure Griffin does not have as much media attention as James received when it was announced that he was going to be in the NBA draft.  Also, who can forget the $90 million contract that James signed with Nike, which he was offered before he even entered the NBA.  For the Oklahoma forward, it seems that he will start off smaller with some endorsement deals with Subway and EA Sports.

Currently, no one knows how big of an impact Griffin will make in the NBA.  But, for the sake of the L.A. Clippers let’s hope he can help turn around the team’s record, and possibly help them obtain a spot in the NBA playoffs next season.  For all we know, Blake Griffin could be a future NBA hall a famer.  With his impressive stats in only his second year in college, it seems as we can expect some sort of a positive impact from Blake Griffin on the L.A. Clippers and in the NBA.
