100-Years of Combined NBA Anniversaries During NBHHCM 2K11
The NBA for the first-time this upcoming June will celebrate 100-years of combined Anniversaries during NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month) 2K11.
The NBA will celebrate its 65th Anniversary date of being founded on June 6, 2011. The NBA was founded at the Hotel Commodore in New York City on June 6, 1946. The NBA was started as an 11-team league.
Its inaugural first-season of 1946-47 started on November 1, 1946 when the New York Knicks faced the Toronto Huskies at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada. The Knicks defeated the Huskies 68-66.
The Philadelphia Warriors defeated the Chicago Stags 4-1 to win the first-ever BAA (NBA) Championship series in 1947.
The NBA was originally formed as the BAA (Basketball Association of America). After the BAA merged with the rival NBL (National Basketball League) in 1949 the league name was changed to the NBA.
The NBA and ABA (American Basketball Association) agreed to merge leagues on June 17, 1976. June 17, 2011 will mark the 35th Anniversary of the merger.
The four NBA teams involved in the merger from the ABA were the Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, New York (New Jersey) Nets, and the San Antonio Spurs.
The other two ABA franchises the Kentucky Colonels and Spirit of St. Louis folded after the merger.
The 100-years of combined Anniversaries the 65th Anniversary of the NBA being founded, and 35th Anniversary of the NBA/ABA merger is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to celebrate 2 landmark moments in American sports history.
The irony that the NBA being founded on June 6th, and the NBA/ABA merger being agreed on June 17th occurring 11-days a part during the year 2011 adds extra historical relevance to sports historians and to the foundation of NBHHCM 2K11.
