Eric Berry vs_ Alabama

Thirteen-year-old Evan Berry has committed to play football at the University of Tennessee. Berry, the younger brother of Vols standout safety Eric Berry, made the commitment to the Vols even though head coach Lane Kiffin is forbidden from offering him a scholarship.

Evan Berry is considered a promising recruit, even though he hasn't even started high school. Evan is about to play quarterback and/or safety at Creekside High School in Fairburn, Ga. Twin brother Elliot Berry is also a promising prospect.

Older brother Eric Berry is an All-American safety at Tennessee who is projected to be a first round pick in the NFL draft. Father James Berry says that both Evan and Elliot are better players than Eric Berry was at 13 years of age. Elliot, for what it's worth, says he is leaning towards LSU.

Evan Berry has committed to Tennessee, but that doesn't mean that the school has made an offer. The NCAA prohibits schools from formally offering scholarships until a prospect has registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Of course, it's hard to say that Berry's "commitment" has any real weight to it, since he is just 13 years old and has yet to play high school football. Perhaps the whole thing is just wishful thinking on the part of a promising young athlete who wants to follow in his brother's footsteps.
