The Virginia lacrosse team fought through the suicide of one of their former player, Will Barrow, throughout the season and reached the semi-finals only to fall short against Cornell.
On the other side of the bracket, the Syracuse lacrosse team defeated Duke to reach the finals. Nine different Syracuse players recorded goals with Pat Perritt recording four goals and Kenny Nims getting a hat trick. Unfortunately for Duke, Syracuse pulled away after a 6-3 lead.

The game was competitive early as Duke answered an opening pair from Syracuse with two Howell tallies, both off feeds from Tewaaraton Trophy finalist Ned Crotty. But then the Orange began taking charge. Perritt gave the Orange a 6-3 lead with 7:28 remaining in the first half. Brad Ross cut the margin to two 22 seconds later, but that was as close as the Blue Devils would get thereafter.

This article is nothing but another slap in the face to Cornell.  When will you guys get it, the Big Red is for real.  They beat Duke and beat Princeton in the regular season and by all accounts Cornell has improved since then but they are placed as a 5th Seed behind both Duke and Princeton, who they beat once again the play offs.  Cornell dismantled Virginia yesterday, it was not a fluke, it was a good ole fashion butt whipping.  Tomorrow they are going to play Syracuse, only this time it will be a different Cornell team, a team with confidence, a team that will knock their grandmothers over to get the ball, a team that will not be playing in the Carrier Dome and trying to play Syracuse style lacrosse like they did on April 7.  Maybe, just maybe the author of the article and the rest of the sports world will finally take notice, Cornell is for real, it is a team with several all americans in key positions and unselfish leadership, discipline and never give up attitude.  Maybe tomorrow when Cornell wins the National Championship they might get some respect because the writer of this article has shown them none.

Cornell should have won. They were up 3 GOALS with less than 4 minutes left. ALSO they should have held the ball for 17 SECONDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats it 17 seconds and Cornell would have won the 2009 division 1 ncaa mens lacrosse championship..... instead they dropped the ball and Syracuse had a fast break to tie the stupid game with 4.2 seconds left. Cornell will be back next year in Baltimore

Cuse won because they capitalized on Cornell's mistake. When Cornell had the lead they didn't seem confident enough to put the Orange away. Go Orange.

both great teams. I was watching that game with my dad, and we couldn't believe the great lacrosse that we saw. cornell Played Real lacrosse up until about the 4 minute mark. thats when they started playing preventative lacrosse. not trying to score, just trying not to get scored on. Lacrosse is a game of momentum and it only takes a few seconds to take the ball down and score. if cornell would have played the last 4 minutes like they played the first 56 it would have been maybe even an 11-6 victory. not a 10-9 ot loss. thats just the facts. Cornell will be back next year to earn that long sought after title.
