2011 Mavs & 1991 Bulls Share June 12 date as 1st Time NBA Champs

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat 105-95 last night in game-6 of The 2011 NBA Finals to win the first championship in franchise history. The crushing lost sent the Heat back to the drawing board for more answers for the superstar trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.

The Mavericks made some NBA trivia history joining the 1991 Chicago Bulls who won their first title on June 12, 1991 exactly 20-years later to the date of the Mavs first title on June 12, 2011.

The 1991 Bulls were also celebrating the 20th Anniversary date of the first of six NBA championships that would be won by Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and coach Phil Jackson. The Bulls beat the Lakers 4-1 to win their first NBA title.

The Mavericks last night did the same thing as the Bulls 20-years to date later and won on the series on the Miami Heat floor.

The Dallas Mavericks ended the 4th 3-Peat run of Phil Jasckson as the Mavericks swept the Lakers in 4-games to win the western conference semi-final series. Jackson won two 3-peats with the Bulls from 1991-93 and 1996-98. He also won a 3-peat with the Lakers from 2000-02, and back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010.

The Mavs and Bulls have some historical connections with the #23. The Mavericks became the 23rd NBA franchise in 1980. Michael Jordan wore the #23, and the league had 23 franchises in 1984 when Jordan was drafted by the Bulls. The 2011 NBA Draft will be held on June 23, 2011.

The Chicago Bulls were founded in 1966. Their 1991 NBA title was won during the franchises 25th year of being formed. The Dallas Mavericks were formed in 1980, and won their first NBA title in the franchises 31st year of being founded. Adding the numbers 25+31=66. The NBA was founded on June 6, 1946 (6/6/46). The NBA turned 65 this past June 6, 2011.

The number 31-25=6. The # 6 is the jersey worn by LeBron James of the Heat. James for the first 7-years of his career wore the #23 while playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
