25th Anniversary of "The NBA Finals" Brand Honored During NBHHCM
The 1986 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets was the second Championship match-up in 5-years that featured the 2-teams, 1981 and 1986. It also marked the first-time that the NBA Championship round was being branded as "The NBA Finals."
Prior to 1986 the Championship round was known as the World Championship Series. The Lakers defeated the Celtics 4-2 to win the 1985 World Championship series.
The series started May 26, 1986 and ended June 8, 1986. The Celtics won the series 4-2 and won their 16th NBA Championship. It was the last of 3 NBA Championships for Larry Bird. The Celtics wouldn't win another NBA Championship for 22-years until 2008.
The 2011 NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks will mark the 25th Anniversary of "The NBA Finals" brand. It also will be the first time since 1986 that an NBA Finals would begin in May (31st).
There is also one more thing in common that the 2011 NBA Finals has with the 1986 NBA Finals. The Heat and Mavericks are facing each other for the second time in 5-years, 2006 and 2011. The same amount of years of the Celtics and Rockets two series match-up. The Celtics won both series vs. the Rockets. Miami defeated Dallas 4-2 in 2006 with Dwyane Wade being named The 2006 Finals MVP.
When the 1986 NBA Finals started the Miami Heat superstar trio of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh were todlers D-Wade 4-years 5 months, LeBron 1-year 6 months, and C-Bosh 2-years 4 months.
The NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month)Foundation will honor the 25th Anniversary of The NBA Finals brand during NBHHCM 2K11 this coming June.
During NBHHCM 2K11 the NBA will celebrate its 65th Anniversary date of being founded. The NBA was founded on June 6, 1946 in New York City. June 6, 2011 will mark the NBA's 65th Anniversary.
The NBA at 65, 6-6-11
