5th Match - Bangalore Royal Challengers vs Chennai Super Kings, IPL Live Score

Ground Reality and Pitch:  Officially known as the 'Sahara Oval', the St George's Park is known to be home to one of the oldest cricket clubs in South Africa, the Port Elizabeth Cricket Club.  Known for its windy conditions, the St George's Park generally tends to favour the seamers towards the start. However, batsmen have found the conditions easy once they get their feet moving.  It has a seating capacity of 19,000.

Player form guide

Bangalore:  Dravid and Anil Kumble were the obvious form players from the first game, but all the Bangalore bowlers did their jobs. The onus is now on the batsmen to adapt to the conditions and ensure that a 17 for 3 situation doesn't happen again.

Chennai:  Hayden didn't show much rustiness, while MS Dhoni fought hard towards the end, but the rest of the batting needs to step up. The bowling was inconsistent too, with Andrew Flintoff letting the team down in the final overs.

Players to Watch:

Kevin Pietersen: Loves to impose himself on a situation, and with only a limited number of matches before he flies home, he'd want to make up for his performance in the last game, when he failed to convert a good start. Would also have a point to prove, when facing up to the bowling of Andrew Flintoff - which forms one of the mouth-watering clashes that this year's IPL has to offer.

Albie Morkel: Has served notice of his incredible hitting power time and again, and he's playing in his home country now - which is an added advantage. Dhoni would do well to pick him in the eleven if he's available. One of the players who can change the complexion of the game in a matter of minutes.

5th Match - Bangalore Royal Challengers vs Chennai Super Kings, IPL Live Score

Team news

Bangalore Royal Challengers: Victory on the opening day of the IPL against the defending champions should go some way towards burying the ghosts of the IPL past. Even so, the Chennai Super Kings are a tougher proposition than the Rajashtan Royals, and Bangalore have certain chinks to iron out. Their victory glossed over the batting failures in the first match and they can ill afford another 1-2 Kiwi tango at the top of the order, with Ryder and Taylore both out for ducks in the first three balls of the match. The bowling looks good, but they might want to tighten up a little with the free gift of extras. On the positive side, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble have rolled back the years, and look in good touch - and if Pietersen fires (as he is bound to do at some point in the tournament), then the Royal Challengers would fancy their chances against any team.

Chennai Super Kings: They were given a rude wake-up call by Mumbai in the IPL opener, but still remain one of the strongest teams in the tournament. The missing kits of Albie Morkel and Makhaya Ntini rendered them unavailable for selection for the Mumbai match, but there should be no such problems against Bangalore. With both Albie and Flintoff available, Chennai has the option of having an ominous looking batting order. The bowling looked good in the last match, although it was a mystery why the promising R Ashwin wasn't given a chance to turn his arm over. Ashwin is not a batsman, and he was picked as a bowler against Mumbai, so it made no sense to not give him a bowl. Also perhaps it is time to try out Murali Vijay as an opening partner for Matthew Hayden, instead of Parthiv Patel.

Friendly fire

Pietersen v Flintoff: The two England big guns will be pitted against each other, and expect sparks to fly when Flintoff comes racing in to bowl to Kevin Pietersen.

Trivia:  Anil Kumble's fifer in the previous match against Rajasthan was the cheapest five wicket haul in the IPL. It is a record that's likely to stand for a while. (Kumble took 5 for 5).

"The Twenty20 game may not be for the oldies but as Sachin and Rahul also showed, we can have our days too," Kumble wrote. "Individually too, Rahul had a point or two to prove. On pitches with bounce and movement, it is technique not flashiness that helps. Believe me, if not for Rahul's technique, the Rajasthan bowlers would have looked far more effective than they did.

Kumble also had a successful game against Rajasthan. He picked up 5 for 5 and said he was "intrigued" by his performance. "I am coming off a long break and may have retired but the moment I am back on the cricket field, ball in hand, the feeling is the same as always. And in any format, a five-wicket haul sure makes one feel one is in the thick of things." Bangalore's second game is against Chennai Super Kings in Port Elizabeth on Monday.

"Let me make it clear that this is a different group and we have set out to achieve something and I daresay the result of our opening match is ample evidence of my claim," Kumble wrote in his column for the Hindu

Bangalore revamped their squad after last-season's failure, the most significant additions being Jesse Ryder and a new captain in Kevin Pietersen, who replaced Rahul Dravid. It was Dravid, however, who played the most crucial role in Bangalore's victory, scoring 66 of 48 balls in testing conditions.

Kumble, during the course of his career best five for 5 (his first five-wicket haul in Twenty20) off 3.1 overs against Rajasthan Royals at Newlands, Cape Town on Saturday, has produced the best economy rate (1.57) amongst the bowlers with five wickets or more in an innings in Twenty20.

Kumble, with his aforesaid excellent performance, has become the first bowler to achieve an economy rate of less than 2.00 runs an over in the IPL, with a minimum of delivering twelve balls, bettering Kolkata Knight Riders' Mohammad Hafeez's economy rate of 2.00 - 4-0-8-1 against Deccan Chargers at Kolkata on April 20, 2008.

Kumble's figures are now the second best in the IPL next only to the 6 for 14 by Sohail Tanvir for Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings at Jaipur on May 4, 2008. He is now the fourth bowler to take five wickets in an innings.

Apart from Kumble and Tanvir, Lakshmipathy Balaji and Amit Mishra are the other two to have captured five wickets in an innings.
