NP Rank:
9-year-old rock climber's act of kindness
This is a piece of news which, as a non-profit organization, really means a lot to us.
Timmy Dolan, a 9-year-old from Boulder, CO, found The Mountain Fund in an internet search.
Timmy is a competitor in the American Bouldering Series - an annual competition which brings together climbers in local, regional, and national comps. Having competed in ABS before, I find it to be one of the most inspiring competitive climbing events in the U.S. Climbers judge each other's completed climbs based on an honor system, and the highest scorers compete in the finals. Everyone, of all abilities, genders, and age groups, can participate.
When he discovered the Mountain Fund, Timmy decided to climb for one of our projects - Rasuwa District Health Care, a clinic in Thulo Syabru, Nepal (near the Tibetan border), which serves the Sherpa community. It is only reachable by foot, and the next nearest health care facility is three hours away.
Timmy's words on why he is fundraising for this project:
"I'm Timmy Dolan and I'm 9 years old. I'm on Team ABC, a competitive climbing team in Boulder, Colorado. I want to raise money for health clinics in Nepal for the Sherpas. I want to help them because they are less fortunate than I am. When they get hurt badly or very sick they cannot afford health clinics and hospitals are too far away. This money will help pay for the health clinics.
I want to do this because it involves climbing and I'm part of the climbing community. It is going to be fun raising money at the regional championships. It is going to make me feel GREAT because I helped somebody else."
Timmy is also planning to get his climbing team involved. He will be competing in the Regional Comp this weekend, with the goal of reaching the Nationals in February.
Good luck and thank you to Timmy from the Mountain Fund! Another example of how kids (and climbers) can save the world.
