An introduction to the equestrian sports at the Olympics. Horses and skilled riding remain among my true loves. There's nothing like the feel of flowing as one with a good horse responding to your every breath--and vice versa.
If you haven't watched dressage before, give it a try. It is a very exacting and demanding athletic competition, although it may look, to the novice eye, like an easy thing to do.
The scope of riding experience we'll be seeing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics is huge. Athletes like Ian Miller and Mark Todd, who is coming out of retirement vying for an Olympic medal, will be familiar faces with decades of experience. Beezy Madden and McLain Ward are assured a spot on the USET show jumping team.Hiroshi Hoketsu will be 67 when he competes for Japan. His last Olympic competition was in the 1964 Games. China will compete in the Equestrian events for the first time with a possible four riders to qualify for the team. None have Olympic experience making them truly new kids on the block.

Hey ya'll, thanks for the read and the flags. Amy, thanks for adding the tags. Johnny, that's a good question. I honestly don't know. But ask me a horsey question! ;} (I believe the people show up with their horses......heh heh.)

There was a movement to have endurance as part of the Olympic equestrian events, did that ever happen ? (endurance 50mile or 100mile)

Here's the list. The Olympic disciplines include Jumping, Dressage and Eventing (Three-Day Event). No endurance--other than the Eventing, which I find truly scary sometimes.
