Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson is reportedly on the move. The Nuggets appear close to dealing Iverson to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for guard Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb.

The move is seen as a way to free up salary cap space for the Pistons and shake up a roster that has made it to the Eastern Conference Finals six years in a row, but haven't won a championship since 2004.

The move could help the Nuggets who have been in need a top point guard to feed the ball to players like Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith. The move could also be seen as a cost-cutting move for the Nuggets as Iverson makes more than $20 million a season. Earlier this year, the Nuggets moved center Marcus Camby in a move to cut payroll. The Nuggets got little in return for Camby and the move was seen as strictly a way to reduce payroll. Similarly, the team refused to re-sign promising forward Linas Kleiza.

As for the Pistons, they will take on Iverson who will add some flash and scoring. He is in a contract year, so if the Iverson decides to leave Detroit, the team will be left with a lot of free cash to spend on free agents.

While the Iverson-Billups trade is a risky, high-profile move, it has to the potential to be the kind of trade that works out well for both teams.

Shocking trade. Iverson used to be my favourite player, but I think hes on the decline. Interesting move by both teams.
