Talk about a photo finish. Two US track athletes finished in a dead heat in the women’s 100 meters at the US Olympic Track and Field Trials on Saturday, June 23, 2012. Officials examined a photo taken at the finish line to determine the third-place finisher in the 100 meters.
The photo showed that US sprinters Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh crossed the line at the exact same time. Both were given a time of 11.07 seconds. Unfortunately, only one of them will be able to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London.
How Will the Tie Between Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh Be Broken?
According to reports, the tie between Felix and Tarmoh will be broken by either a coin toss or another spring between the two of them.
To break the tie, Felix and Tarmoh will be given a choice between a coin flip or run-off. Should both competitors choose the same option, that option will be used to determine the third spot on the Olympic team. Should one competitor choose run-off but the other a coin flip, a run-off will be held.
