Andre Dawson Elected To The Hall Of Fame, Roberto Alomar Left Out
Roberto Alomar was left out from this year's Baseball Hall of Fame Vote, missing the required ballot minimum by eight votes. Andre Dawson, known as the "Hawk," of Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs got the most votes and has been named the newest member of the Hall of Fame today. Alomar was one of the favourites to win the nomination to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Dawson, 55, was an eight-time National League All-Star and one-time Most Valuable Player. In his baseball career, Dawson has hit 409 home runs and 962 extra base hits. Dawson was elected by 420 ballots, earning 77.9% of the vote. This year's favourtie Alomar got 397 ballots, which was the most for a first-year candidate without being elected. Alomar will remain on the ballot for 15 years provided he is nominated in at least 5% of the ballots each year.
Andre Dawson, a five-tool player who won eight Gold Glove and four Silver Slugger Awards in a career spanning 21 seasons with the Montreal Expos, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and Florida Marlins, was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America in balloting verified by Ernst & Young.
Dawson will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 25, 2010.
