In NHL circles, Andrew Ference is known as something of a gentleman. He is a known environmentalist, who helped develop a carbon-offset program for the NHL. He has also done charity work in Africa. During the Montreal Canadiens vs Boston Bruins game on April 21, 2011, Andrew Ference seemed to lose his cool, giving the Montreal crowd the finger after scoring a goal.
Midway through the second period and down 3-1, Andrew Ference scored a goal to narrow the Habs lead to one goal. Ference celebrated by throwing his arm in the air and flipping the bird.
Andrew Ference will likely face a fine for his obscene gesture. Earlier in the season, Habs defenceman James Wisniewski, then with the New York Islanders, was suspended for a making a crude gesture at Sean Avery of the New York Rangers.
