That player was Fred Perry and today Andy Murray beat Roger Federer to bring him one step nearer to becoming the next British grand slam champion.
Murray is sponsored by Fred Perry clothing and today looked every inch up to the Fred Perry logo that he wears on court.
This was a victory to make up for his loss against Federer in New York earlier in the year.
The boy has become a man. That was the view of Roger Federer after Andy Murray beat him here to reverse last month's US Open final defeat – just as he indicated he might do. Murray said at the start of the week that he was playing better than he was in New York and he wasn't kidding.
