Ayr United Football Academy at Scottish Health Awards

Ayr United Football Academy has finished as a runner-up in the Scottish Health Awards in Edinburgh last night.

The Academy was nominated in the Community Care section for its coaching contributions to the community. A runners-up prize of £400 was awarded to it at the ceremony in the Corn Exchange.

Chairman Ian Welsh said:

“Whilst we are disappointed not to have won, the Award is of secondary importance. The Board of AUFA and the extensive coaching and volunteer team are immensely proud to be contributing to the local Ayrshire community.

“AUFA has made huge progress over the last few years delivering football coaching to a wide range of young people in Ayrshire. Its set-up, driven by Davie White and his team, on the coaching side, is recognised by the SFA, and others, as a first-class operation.”

The NHS award is aimed at recognizing life-improving work that is carried out in a community setting. Ian said: “Part of our ethos is to promote health and well-being in the wider community and amongst diverse groups of people and it is this aspect of our activity that has prompted our nomination for a Scottish Health Award.

“Our innovative approaches demonstrate that young people and those who work with them are building huge social capital in the community. This sense of corporate social responsibility is one of the key reasons why we see ourselves as more than just a football operation.”
