Saturday's Baltimore Marathon was struck by tragedy: a runner collapsed at the 25-mile mark with a core body temperature of 108 degrees Farenheit, and was pronounced dead at Union Memorial Hospital. An autopsy was scheduled for yesterday, but results are not yet released. This is the second Baltimore Marathon death on record.
Debra Schindler, a hospital spokeswoman, said the runner collapsed about 11:20 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:11 p.m. after doctors unsuccessfully tried to revive him. Schindler said the runner never regained consciousness.
