The late George Steinbrenner failed to make into the Baseball Hall Fame in Cooperstown on his first appearance on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot. Appearing on the Baseball Hall of Fame Veteran Committee ballot, George Stienbrenner appeared on less than half of the 16 ballots cast.

Steinbrenner wasn’t the only candidate with Yankees ties who didn’t come close to induction, with Ron Guidry, Tommy John and Billy Martin also getting less than eight votes apiece.

Pat Gillick was the only person selected in Monday’s vote. Gillick has spent 50 years in baseball and was the Yankees’ scouting director from 1974-76. He helped build successful teams with the Phillies, Blue Jays, Mariners and Orioles.

The long time owner of the New York Yankees, George Steinbrenner died of a heart attack in Tampa, Florida in July.

George Steinbrenner was 80.
