The BCHL Nanaimo Clippers kept their losing streak going Sunday afternoon with a 2/5 loss to the Alberni Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are a much improved hockey team this year, with a new coach. The former assistant coach to the Nanaimo Clippers is now the head coach for the Alberni Bulldogs.
The Nanaimo Clippers scored early in the first period and it was followed by another. It was starting to look as if the Clippers would pull off a win. Sloppy passes and some unfortunate penalties stopped the push and the Alberni Bulldogs came back to win in the third period.
The referee for the game, Benbow, is probably the least favourite of the Nanaimo fans and many left convinced that poor reffing made the difference in the game outcome. Frustration started to show late in the third period as players on both sides started to settle scores. The fifth goal against the Clippers, while not a game decider, was scored when the goalie and Alberni player were flattened inside the net.
The Nanaimo Clippers hockey team will have their work cut out for them on Friday night at the Frank Crane Arena when they face off against the very hot Vernon Vipers.
