BCHL Nanaimo Clippers Lose to Victoria Grizzlies
Saturday night saw a sparse crowd see the Nanaimo Clippers lose the first home game of the year to the Victoria Grizzlies. The Nanaimo Clippers have been struggling all season and Saturday night's game continued the trend. The final score was Nanaimo Clippers 2, Victoria Grizzlies 4.
The Victoria Grizzlies drew first blood in period one and then extended their lead by another. The Clippers ground their way back to a two all tie but allowed the Grizzlies a third goal late in the third period. The Clippers pulled their goalie in the last minute of play and the Grizzlies put the game away with an empty net goal.
The stalwart crowd that stayed to witness yet another loss by the Nanaimo Clippers, groaned as the sloppy passes turned the puck over to the Grizzlies again and again. One long time season ticket holder started cheering for a Grizzly player who stood out. He had been traded away from the Nanaimo Clippers earlier in the season.
We're half way throughout the 09/10 hockey season and the prospects for the playoffs are looking pretty dim.
Next home game for the Nanaimo Clippers is Friday January 8th against the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
