The #2 Florida Gators leapfrogged the #3 Texas Longhorns in the latest college football BCS rankings, setting up a national championship showdown with the #1 Oklahoma Sooners that should feature two Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks.

The BCS title game will be played Jan. 8, 24 days after the nation’s most outstanding college football player (a.k.a., “the Heisman Trophy winner”) is named during ceremonies in New York City.  Unless that award’s selection process is rigged, the 2008 Heisman winner will be Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford (see this post, this video and these head-to-head stats for details), a sophomore who will lead his high-powered offense against last year’s winner, Florida junior QB Tim Tebow.

Sidenote: The title game will mark the first time Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops faces off against the team for which he served three years as defensive coordinator prior to being hired by Oklahoma in 1999.
