Update 24-08: It's over. The last gold medal (number 302) was going to France. These were certainly the games of the Chinese. They were absolutely the best in most sports with a total of 51 gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze medals. Great performance of the Chinese.
USA had a lot of chances for gold but messed it up all the time. They have an unbelieveble 38 silver medals and with that result they did it very good at second place. They grabbed also the most bronze medals, but the most important medal, the gold one was only 36 times for the USA. Remember that only Michael Phelps took 8 of them.
Russia came back in the last days and finished with 23 gold on the third place.Great Britain had good Games and finished on the fourth spot. Germany ended at the fifth place. The Netherlands finished on the 12th place, that is less then expected, but still good. Remarkeble that in the Orange squad most medals came from women!!!
Just for the record: Canada ended on spot 19. See the complet Medal Tally below, 55 countries took one or more gold medals and 86 countries grabt at lest one medal.
The last day of the Olympic Summer Games. China just took gold medal number 50, by boxer Zhou. USA is second with 35 gold and will end on that place. Russia is still third, followed by Great Britain. Today we have only12 golden medals.

China took gold medal number 48. Are they going for the magic 50?? 'we will see in the next hours en tomorrow. Sunday August 24th is the last day with 12 finals.
After that it is time for the Closing Ceremony. The Chinese held no rehersel they said because there is no time. Of course that is not correct, that's part of the show, look what we can do without rehersel. The Chinese Closing Ceremony has to stay in our memories for ever, so they don't take any risk with that. That rehersel is done some time ago. Want to see??
