Tal Ben-Haim looks set to make his Sunderland debut against Arsenal when Premiership actions resumes next week.
Phil Bardsley’s suspension has forced Ricky Sbragia to break up his on from back four with former Chelsea man Ben-Haim looking likely to slot into the right-back role having previously played there.
Sbragia said: “One of the new lads will play against Arsenal and it will more than likely be Tal because he’s a right-back as well.”
The Israeli will be on international duty this evening in a home game against Hungary which should provide an opportunity to maintain fitness levels with the Black Cats out of this Saturdays FA cup fifth round fixtures.
Sbragia is also pleased that his team have crossed the 30-point mark doing so with the 2-0 home victory against Stoke.
With the team currently sitting 11th in the league Sbragia has noted the points tally as a milestone on route to reaching the much lauded 40 points needed for Premiership survival.
He said: “It was a good feeling to hit 30 points and it’s imperative that we keep getting results and have a good finish to the season.”
“I’ve spoken to people who think the points total needed to stay up might be dropping but I would have thought 40 will see you safe” he added.
“We have got Arsenal and Liverpool away but, with us having a bit of a cushion, we can go there with the thought of getting something.”
After difficult away games Sunderland then have vital home ties against Tottenham and Wigan.
