Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be supsended for four to six games. The Ben Roethlisberger suspension is the result of violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy.

A twenty-year-old college student had accused Ben Roethlisberger of sexually assaulting her in the bathroom of an Atlanta nightclub, but Roethlisberger was not prosecuted. According to internal NFL communications, the league wanted to send a message that players are to be held to a higher standard of conduct than is dictated by the law.

A six-game suspension would have Roethlisberger back on the field for Week 8 to face defending Super Bowl Campions the New Orleans Saints, leading at least one sharp-eyed observer to wonder if elements of the schedule were conceived with the Roethlisberger suspension in mind.

Ben Roethlisburger To be Traded?

A growing rumor suggests that the Steelers might trade Roethlisburger, and the Steelers have not definitively dismissed the rumor.

Steelers employees were bracing Tuesday night for what they suspected would be an eight-game suspension, but two sources said it would not be eight games.
