Salford Watersports Centre in Salford Quays will be the host for the 3rd European Biathle championships on Sunday 3rd August, 2008.

Biathle is a combination of two sports, running and swimming.  The unique element of the sport is that the competitors actually run, then swim and run again during each event. During the transistion just like in triathlon the athletes have to remove their running shoes ready to enter the water.

A number of the competitors gathered on the Saturday afternoon on the 2nd of August for a water training session, where the athletes practice the entry and exit to the water, which is where great savings of time can be made in the real races.

Biathle has a very broad range of ages for the competitors which all run and swim different distances based on their class and age that they race in.

One athletes parents expressed how they had travelled up from Bristol that morning but due to the Manchester Uniteds Solskjaer testimonial match against Espanyol of Spain at Old Trafford which is in sight of the Watersports Centre they only just reached the training session.

The weather for the Sunday is forcast to be variable with a very good chance of rain.

The event actually runs from 9.30 am and the last race starts at 3.30 pm. on the 3rd August 2008, Salford Watersports Centre.
