On 2nd August, 2008, several cyclists plan to fundraise for a new base for a Buddhist Centre.

The current one, in London, the Samye Dzong, which used to be an old Victorian School, has to be to be demolished to make way for a hospital.

The Samye Dzong has given local people, from all religions, a variety of courses, various teachings and a place of tranquilty. The cyclists will pedal all the way from the Thames to the Samye Ling, Buddhist Centre, in Scotland.

Cyclists and other supporters are welcome to see them off at the Carlisle Lane Centre, near Waterloo for 9am and can join them for part of the journey.

For further details, the Centre can be contacted on 020-7708 8969 or london@samye.org. They would be very happy to hear from you.

At Now Public, we look forward to receiving their photo and video updates and to hear how their fundraising is going. We wish them good luck and hope they don't have too many punctures!

Both photos are identical!

I have more of both centres - and one of the outside of Manor Place pre conversion here- http://www.flickr.com/photos/secretlondon/2658955265/

My visit to Samye Ling, when I took the photo featured here - was a turning point in my life. Very pleased to be involved with this - best regards for the project.

Peace be with you all

I spent six months at Samye Ling and think it is a fantastic place - best thing I've ever done!

I know Will Harwood, whose idea this was, and he's a great guy.  Fingers crossed he raises a lot of money!

Update 12 September. They raised the £10,000 in the end for their new centre, which is great news.
