Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher has reportedly told Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner that he does not want to replace Romeo Crennel as the team's head coach.

Rumors persist that Bill Cowher was the front-runner for the head coaching job in Cleveland. Cowher played for the Browns and worked as an assistant coach there for four years.

Lerner met with Cowher who told him he was not interested in the job because he was enjoying living in North Carolina and working as a TV analyst.

"I got word that he was available for an informal conversation because he was very aware I had him at the top of the list, getting involved with the Browns," Lerner said. "He wanted to tell me personally that he did not anticipate coaching in 2009. I wouldn't say Bill Cowher was the first choice, but I would say Cowher was the clear, no-questions-asked, guy you wanted to ask where he stood."

Lerner has also expressed interest in recently fired New York Jets coach Eric Mangini. He has also expressed interest in talking to New England Patriots Executive Vice President Scott Pioli about replacing fired GM Phil Savage.
