The head of Asian football, Mohamed Bin Hammam has pulled out of the race to lead the sport's world governing body Fifa, which is reeling over corruption allegations. He said the allegations against him were baseless but he could not let the name of Fifa be dragged further into the mud. He believes the allegation made against him were part of a plot to make him withdraw his candidacy. Seep Blatter is now unopposed in seeking a fourth term in charge of Fifa. The votes due to take place on Wednesday, but that now depends on Fifa's ethics committee. Both Mr. Bin Hammam and Mr. Blatter have been summon to answer questions about allegedly improper payment made at an election campaign meeting. All the accused deny any wrong doing, but the ethics committee has authority to suspend them from involvement in football if it sees fit.
