Bobby Gonzalez Fired by Seton Hall: Player Arrested
Setan Hall Released Coach Bobby Gonzalez After Rocky 4-Year Relationship
Bobby Gonzalez was fired by Seton Hall after a disappointing 4-year run as the team's Men's Basketball head coach. Gonzalez's fiery personality was one of the main reasons he was let go. The move comes a day after Seton Hall was eliminated from the National Invitation Tournament after a 87-69 loss to Texas Tech in the opening round of the tournament.
Seton Hall dismissed Coach Bobby Gonzalez on Wednesday, ending his tumultuous four-year tenure a day after an ignominious first-round loss in the National Invitation Tournament and the arrest of a player who had been kicked off the team.
Gonzalez leaves Seton Hall with a 66-59 record, a far cry from what Seton Hall was hoping for when he was hired. Gonzalez signed a contract extension with the team last year that would taken him into 2015, but the coach's personality was simply too much says the university law school dean Patrick Hobbs, who has been watching over basketball operations.
"Performance and success are not measured solely by wins and losses, but also in the conduct of those associated with the program," Hobbs said.
Gonzalez Undone by Temper, Personality Issues
Gonzalez is known more for his temper than actual success on the basketball court. Gonzalez-led teams have never made the NCAA Tournament.
Gonzalez's recruiting choices have also been questioned, as many of his selections have shoddy pasts. Pirates player Robert Mitchell was arrested the day before Gonzalez's firing, and has been charged with kidnapping, robbery, burglary and possession of a weapon.

Rocking, shocking story from NJ today. In recent years, Seton Hall University has had basketball teams that have done well at the NIT and somewhat well in the NCAAs. The firing is probably for the best for the basketball program of Seton Hall.
