The Boxing Kangaroo Flag, looming over Vancouver's Olympic Village, will stay throughout the Vancouver 2010 Games. While there's little chance the Australian Olympic team would ever have taken down the Boxing Kangaroo, Australian Olympic official John Coats talked IOC president Jacques Rogge to allow the unofficial flag to fly.
The IOC was getting twitchy about an "unsanctioned trademarked logo", and seemed to think that Australia was somehow trying to hijack the Olympic branding; Coates convinced Rogge that that was not the case.
"Whereas the IOC is of the view that it's a breach of IOC rules on clean venues, they are not going to request we take down the boxing kangaroo on this occasion," Coates said.
Of course, if Surrey still wants to fly the Boxing Kangaroo flag, that's cool.
