New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre reportedly contacted the Detroit Lions prior to their game against the Green Bay Packers and gave the Lions a detailed scouting report on his former team's offense.

Several sources have told FOX Sports that Favre earlier this year phoned the Detroit Lions prior to their battle versus Favre's old team, the Green Bay Packers, and gave them a rundown of the nuances of what Green Bay does on offense. According to the sources, Favre actually spent over an hour on the phone with Lions coaches, who were connected with Favre by then-team president Matt Millen.

While the Lions still lost and the Packers and Favre's replacement Aaron Rodgers played well, it's still baffling that the Packers legend would spend such a significant chunk of time giving tips to an opponent of his long-time franchise.

Other teams the Packers have played had also heard about the Favre coaching clinic with Detroit. In addition, there have been rumors that Favre has spoken to other teams giving them information, but most of those teams insist they have not heard from the famed gunslinger.

According to a report by Sports Illustrated's Peter King, Favre has denied contacting the Lions and a Lions executive has also denied the story.

If the story turns out to be true, it could hurt Favre's standing in Green Bay where he is nothing short of a legend.

"He contacted them? I don't respect that," Woodson said after the Packers' victory over Indianapolis on Sunday. "If they call him and he gives them information, that's one thing. But to seek a team out and to feel like you're trying to sabotage this team, I don't respect that. I know he's been the greatest player around here for a long time, but there's no honor in that."

Favre has been in the news several times in the past few weeks. Last week, Favre allegedly encouraged Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo to play rather than recover from a broken finger. Prior to that, Favre got into hot water with PETA for a prank that involved a dead animal.

I really hope he didn't but I won't be surprised if he did. He's been really immature retiring, un-retiring, retiring, un-retiring again so I won't be surprised if he wanted to sabotage the Packers on purpose.

Sorry as a newbie here I thought I was just responding to the photo I contributed not to the story but if it turns out to be true then it sends a bad signal about Favre's character. If he has to resort to such bush league behavior because he's still miffed at the Packers, after all those long years with that team, then I wonder about his decision to join the Jets. We, the Jets,  are still a mediocre team at best and the initial NY media reports about Favre was that he was almost a slam dunk to get us into the playoffs this year but I don't have a good feeling about him so far. I was one of the few Jet fans who wanted them to stick with Chad Pennington, who may be having a little better year with the fish then Favre so far if you compare their stats.

NY Jets were playing New England at the Meadowlands and Brett Favre had just handed the ball off to one of this running backs. He appears to be running away from the play.
