Drivers are asked to allow extra time for their journeys this weekend as the British Superbikes 2007 Championship is staged at Donington Park.

The M1 will be busier than usual with traffic travelling to and from this popular event on Friday 21, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 September.

Tens of thousands of fans and spectators are expected to attend over the weekend, many of them on motorbikes.

The Highways Agency advises those attending and travelling in the area to allow extra time for their journey, and be alert for motorcyclists using the roads.

Additional Highways Agency Traffic Officers will be patrolling the M1 to help people get to and from the event. The Highways Agency's control room at junction 26 of the M1 will be monitoring the traffic using CCTV. Drivers and passengers are also being advised to make sure they have plenty of water and refreshments with them on their journey in case it takes longer than planned.

Journey planning information including the latest road conditions isavailable through the Highways Agency website, the new Traffic Radio service on DAB digital radio and the internet at http://www.trafficradio.org.uk at information points at motorway service areas and through travel news bulletins.
