Hello again MU.com readers. The brothaman is back on the blog and it’s been too long. For that, I apologize. I’m actually typing as I ride along in my Toyota Sequoia. We’re on the way to Mississippi – it’s weird typing Mississippi – for RC Boat Races this weekend. From racing on concrete and asphalt to racing on the water; I guess this racing thing is in my blood.

Well if you’ve been hibernating, last weekend’s U.S. Nationals was a dream weekend for our DSR Matco Tools Top Fuel team. Our team is riding a hot streak that we hope to keep going for six more races after winning the U.S. Nationals this Monday. It was an unbelievable week at the marquee race on our schedule. Indy is not only our home race – I live 20 minutes from Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis – it’s our Super Bowl event. The U.S. Nationals is NHRA’s Indy 500 or Daytona 500. It’s the one race win that can make a career. I’ve been fortunate enough to win it twice on the bikes, but there’s nothing like winning Indy in Top Fuel. Top Fuel dragsters are the kings of the sport. To hear your name as a U.S. Nationals Top Fuel winner along with Don Garlits, my DSR teammate Tony Schumacher and Larry Dixon is an amazing feeling. It’s surreal at this point. I still have to pinch myself. It’s like a dream and a really good dream.

Not only did we win Indy, we won from the pole. It was an awesome weekend. We ran really well in all conditions, and let me tell you, we faced a lot of different conditions. It was crazy hot on Friday and Saturday. It felt like an oven with 100-degree heat for two days. Then in was drizzling and cool on Sunday and downright chilly on Monday. It was like a 40-degree temperature change from Friday to Monday. That’s why they pay the crew chiefs the big bucks and I love my crew chiefs, Mark Oswald and Brian Corradi. We’ve won three of the last four races and have gone to at least the semifinals at the last six races and locked in the No. 2 position in the Countdown to 1 standings behind Del Worsham. The six-race playoff begins next weekend at zMax Dragway at Concord near Charlotte.

We learned a lot two years ago in 2009 when we were leading the standings going into the Countdown and had two bad rounds that cost us the championship. Our game plan is to be aggressive and take things one round at a time. We need to continue to do what we’ve been doing to put ourselves in position to have a chance to win the 2011 NHRA Top Fuel championship at Pomona in mid-November.

We’re going to enjoy this last off weekend because we have three straight races with Charlotte 2, Dallas and Reading and that will really separate the contenders before the last three races. I’m going to do my best to whoop some tail with my RC Boats and we’ll head off to Charlotte next Thursday. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading.

God bless,

Antron
