Bundesliga Friday Feature Game 1.FC Koeln vs Hoffenheim 1:1
TSV Hoffenheim and 1.FC Koeln battle to 1:1 draw in Friday evening thriller
Koeln came out very agressive from the start of the game, taking advantage of their home game advantage. Their offensive spirit paid of in the 17th minute when Lukas Podolski scored. Mati Jailo had the ball on the left side and drew two defenders in his direction, Simunic wanted to help and Mati passed the ball to Podolski who took a quick glance toward the goal and fired the ball into the net. This was Podolski’s second goal of the season. 1:0 Koeln.
The remainder of the first half was mostly in favour of Koeln. Koeln, which is considered as one of the relegation zone clubs this season, demonstrated, that they can compete with the top clubs in the league. Hoffenheim certainly was not up to their usual performance.
Hoffenheim started the second half much more aggressive than in the first half. In the first five minutes they had a couple of good chances and earned two corner kicks.
Finally in the 54th minute, with a classic play by the Senegalese Demba Ba, the ball found the left hand corner of the net. It was apparent that keeper Mondragon had thought the ball was going wide. Either way he had no chance, 1:1 in the 54th minute.
While Hoffenheim was definitely the better team in the second half, Koeln was able to contain them to a 1:1 tie. No change for either team in the standings.
