With Bundesliga Matchday 33 in the books, Bayern Muenchen laid a severe shellacking on FC St. Pauli.  The 8-1 victory by Munich was send off to the Second Bundesliga.  FC St. Pauli opened the season with relative success, but the second half of the season left the team wanting.

League leader and this years German champion was defeated by Werder Bremen 2-0, ensuring that Bremen would remain in the Bundesliga next season.  Leverkusen only managed a draw with Hamburg, which left an opening for Bayern Munich to reach second place in next week's final matchday.  Munich will be meeting VFB Stuttgart next weekend, while Leverkusen meets Freiburg.  This will be the interesting matches to watch for at the top of the table.

The relegation battle will still involve three clubs.  While St. Pauli fate is sealed, Wolfsburg, MoenchenGladbach  and Frankfurt will fight to move into 15th place and out of the relegation zone.  Places 17 and 18 will be relegated automatically, while 16th place will play a relegation match with the third placed team of the second Bundesliga.

While Dortmund has already been crowned as this year's champion, there is still a battle for second place.  Mainz 05, one of this years newly promoted team, has captured itself a spot that qualifies it for play in the European League.

As the season winds down, one can only wonder why Bayern did not wake up until it was too late in the season.  The dismissal of the Dutch coach Van Gaal seems to have given the team the revival it needed.
