Training Camps for the Top flight of German soccer are now underway.  Three new teams have been promoted to the top flight, FC Freiburg, FSV Mainz 05, and 1.FC Nuernberg.  Surprisingly all three new clubs hail from Southern Germany.

Freiburg is located in Southwest Baden, not far from the Swiss and French border.  Mainz is in the West just slightly north of Frankfurt, while Nuernberg  is in Lower Bavaria, not far from the Czech border.

Nuernberg is no stranger to the Bundesliga, while Freiburg and Mainz have been stables in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Last season Wolfsburg topped the league and it will be interesting if, now that Volkswagen purchased Porsche, if the team from Volkswagen's hometown can continue to perform as the Porsche of the league.

FC Bayern Muenchen, no doubt, will again be a strong contender for the Championship.

The World Cup in South Africa in 2010 will also be lurking in the background.

Matchup for Matcday One is as follows:

August 7th

Wolfsburg vs Stuttgart   (last years #1 vs #3)

Saturday August 8th

Hertha BSC Berlin   vs   Hanover 96

Borrusia Dortmund vs 1.FC Koeln

Werder Bremen vs Eintracht Frankfurt

FSV Mainz 05 vs Bayer Leverkusen (Leverkusen place 9th last season)

1.FC Nuernberg vs Schalke 04  (Schalke was 8th last season)

Hoffenheim vs FC Bayern  Muenchen

Sunday August 9th

VFL Bochum vs Borrussia Moenchengladbach

FC Freiburg vs Hamburger SV (#5 last season)
