West Ham United Season 2008-2009

Calum Davenport, the 26-year-old West Ham United centre back, is in serious condition in hospital today, after being stabbed at his home along with his mother last night.

It is not known why at this time he was attacked, but Davenport has had surgery on both his legs and he and his mother are recovering.

Two men have been arrested for the attack, but their names have not been released at this time:

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Derby on suspicion of attempted murder, and is being brought to Bedford, Bedfordshire Police said.

A man, 19, who was arrested earlier, remains in police custody.

It is expected that both Calum and his mother will make a full recovery.

"The club's medical team are in contact with hospital staff. The thoughts of everyone at West Ham are with Calum and his family and, due to the ongoing police investigation, no further information will be released at this time," the club said.

Davenport signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with West Ham in 2007.
