Coach Alan Vigneault's future, in doubt ever since April 14, when the Canucks fired General Manager Dave Nonis, was clarified yesterday, as Vigneault and the Canucks signed a contract extension for the next two seasons.

Vigneault was named coach of the year last season, and he obviously loves living in Vancouver. A hockey crazy friend of mine once spotted the coach jogging through Stanley Park. My friend offered Vigneault a straightforward "good game coach!"; others on the scene apparently gave him high-fives; and one cheeky Oilers fan uttered a string of mean-spirited insults.

Vancouver Canucks coach Alain Vigneault agreed Thursday to a contract extension through the 2009-10 season.

Vigneault guided the Canucks to a 88-59-17 record in two seasons.

“This is a team that I believe in and a city that I love living and working in,” he said.

The Canucks also announced assistant coaches Barry Smith and Mike Kelly were relieved of their duties.

I gotta guess your friend's encounter was not in March or April?

eastvanray, yeah his encounter was earlier in the season, before the canuck's springtime implosion.
