NP Rank:
Caps 3, Flames 2
The Washington Capitals may need help, but the one thing they can do is help themselves by winning.
Game by game.
And they started tonight with no other than Alexander Ovechkin providing the rally, scoring goals 55 and 56.
The
Caps downed the Calgary Flames 3-2. Victor Kozlov started the scoring
off just 53 seconds in for for his 15th goal of the year. Kozlov has 6
points in his last 7 games. Jarome Iginla would tie it up later in the
first to send the game to a 1-1 tie at the first intermission. The
Flames would jump out to a 2-1 lead midway through the second period.
At 17:55, Ovechkin scored his first goal of the game, a power play
assisted by Alexander Semin and Mike Green.
The game winner came on a power play deep into the third period
after a high sticking penalty on the face off by Owen Nolan. Ovechkin
added goal number 56 and his 20th power play goal of the year to propel
him to the NHL lead in power play goals. Ovie now leads the NHL in
Goals, Points, and Power Play Goals.
Goalie Olaf Kolzig won his 300th game of his career, stopping 24 of
26 shots. DCPSR congratulates Olie on that great accomplishment.
The Caps got some help tonight from Toronto as they downed
Philadelphia 3-2. Philadelphia hold the 8th playoff spot and the
Capitals now move to within 5 points. Looks like they will move up to
9th spot as well as Pittsburgh is defeating Buffalo 4-1 with 15 minutes
left in the third period.
One game at a time.
