Carl Edwards’ Crash: 8 NASCAR Fans Injured at Talladega Speedway
The Carl Edwards crash upstaged winner Brad Keselowski's last-lap pass to take the Sprint Cup Series at Talledega Super Speedway, Sunday. Edwards car spun more than 15 feet in the before bursting into flames, and air and debris hit spectators in the stands.
Eight fans were injured at the scene; two women and Carl Edwards were rushed to hospital. Edwards has since been released from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. One of the women was hit in the face with flying debris and suffered a broken jaw. No word on the injuries of the second woman.
Carl Edwards was just passed the tri-oval in the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Super Speedway when his car went off the track and hit a safety fence during the last lap. Brad Keselowski picked up the pace at that point and went on to win the series but all eyes were on Carl Edwards and the fiery crash.

Carl Edwards’ crash occurred in the final lap of Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at the Talladega Speedway. Edwards’ car actually flipped 15 feet into the air in the collision, also involving drivers Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Other Talladega Crashes
Carl Edwards’ crash was one of three major Talladega wrecks on Sunday. There was also a 13-car wreck on lap 7 and a 10-car crash soon thereafter. No drivers were injured in any of the incidents.
NASCAR is reportedly investigating the crashes to see if any additional safety measures are warranted.
