Carlsbad Half Marathon at 3 Mile Mark First Ten Minutes of First Wave

For the first time since 1996, Americans won in both the men and women's categories at the 2009 Carlsbad Marathon. The Carlsbad Half-Marathon was won by a pair of Kenyan runners.

Josh Spiker of Ventura, CA was the first to finish line with a time of 2:24:56. He was followed by Kenyans Andrew Musuva (2:26:50) and Bernard Songoka ( 2:27:13). The race was Spiker's first-ever marathon.

Shawna Wilskey of Burlington WA was the women's champion, finishing with a time of 3:01:17. She beat out fellow American Peggy Kern and Kristin Carpenter.

The Carlsbad Half-Marathon was won by Wesley Korir of Kenya in a time of 1:02:45. Jane Kibii, also of Kenya, won the women's division with a time of 1:12:26. 

More than 9,000 runners took part in the 19th edition of the Carlsbad Marathon.
