Caroline Wozniacki on BF Rory McIlroy's Wrist Shot
by Karen Fish
With Tiger Woods staggering around Bobby Jones’ home club the Atlanta Athletic Club like a punch drunk boxer in the twilight of his career Rory McIlroy looked poised to become the heir to the throne. Rory McIlroy had the world at his feet. In June in the US Open Rory McIlroy dismantled the Congressional Country Club and became the youngest US Open Champion since Bobby Jones in 1923. Rory McIlroy broke the US Open Record at Congressional in June by shooting a record low score of 268, 16 under par, winning by eight shots, running away from the field like Tiger Woods at the 2000 US Open at Pebble Beach and Secretariat at the Belmont Stakes.
At the press conference after the US Open Rory McIlroy said “I’m looking forward to putting myself in the picture for hopefully many more major championships.” Yesterday on his third hole at the PGA at the Atlanta Athletic Club Rory McIlroy pullled his shot into the left trees and his ball came to rest just in front of a tree root. Rather than chip out into the fairway Rory McIlroy decided to risk his entire golfing career going for the green and slamming his hands, wrists, arms and shoulders straight into the titanium tough tree root. The tree root won.
After the shot Rory McIlroy screamed in pain, fell to the ground and began writhing around in the forest howling in agony. Rather than hop into the waiting ambulance Rory McIlroy decided to take some percocets, bandage his shattered hand, wrist and arm and continue playing like a MASH victim. The microphone caught Rory McIlroy saying “All I need is a Danish.”
In Hamburg on July 2, 2011 Rory McIlroy continued his amazing summer watching Vladimir Klitschko try to KO David Haye for one of the Heavyweight Boxing Titles. His brother Vitali Klitschko holds the other one. The Klitschkos are to boxing what the Molinari Brothers are to spaghetti and the Williams sisters were to tennis before the arrival of World Number 1 Caroline Wozniacki.
Somehow Caroline Wozniacki has been number 1 for 42 weeks despite never having won a major championship. Some attribute this to the Stuxnet Virus. Caroline Wozniacki’s mother Anna Wozniacki played on the Polish women’s national volleyball team and her father Piotr played for the Danish Soccer team Boldklubben 1909.
On July 2, 2011 Danish Caroline Wozniacki is sitting in Hamburg watching Vladimir Klitschko hammer David Haye and sitting right behind her was Rory McIlroy; to her right was the second ranked boxer in the world Vitali Klitschko. Asked yesterday about her boyfriend Rory McIlroy’s decision to risk his entire golfing career for the sake of one shot and then continuing on despite not knowing if he’d suffered career ending ligament, bone, nerve or tendon ruptures Caroline Wozniacki said,
“You live by the sword you die by the sword. After the fight Rory and I went for dinner with the Klitschko brothers, the Molinari brothers, the Williams sisters, Andre Agassi and his wife Steffi Graf. Rory and I shared a Caesar Salad with grilled chicken, the Klitschko brothers had steaks, the Molinari brothers ordered pizza and we stuck Andre and Steffi with the bill by pretending to go to the bathroom. If you don’t take risks in life you can never realize your true potential. Now Rory has learned that tree roots are stronger than wrist bones.”
