Cavendish takes lead in Sacramento's First Stage of Amgen Tour
Following in second place was JJ Hado, Saxo Bank; third place - Alexander Kristoff, BMX Racing Team; fourth place - Robbie Hunter, Garmin Transistions and Jonathan Cantwell, Fly V Australia.
The first stage of the race of the Amgen Tour left Nevada City, CA this morning, arriving in Sacramento around 4pm, over 104 miles of mixed terrain through Grass Valley, Auburn, Cool and then outlying areas of Sacramento.
Tomorrow, the tour leaves Davis, CA to begin the second stage which ends in Santa Rosa.
It continues on to San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Modesto, Visalia, Bakersfield, Palmdale, Big Bear Lake, Los Angeles and ends in Thousand Oaks / Westlake Village / Agoura Hills.
According to the Amgen Tour website: it is "the largest cycling event in America, the 2010 Amgen Tour of California is a Tour de France-style cycling road race, presented by AEG, that challenges the world’s top professional cycling teams to compete along a demanding course from May 16-23.
