Tiger Woods Loses His Cool During Masters

CBS Jim Nantz Blasts Tiger Woods Profanity, Swear Word Tantrums at Masters 2010

The voice of the Masters on CBS, Jim Nantz was critical of Tiger Woods and the language the golfer used during his comeback at the Masters 2010 tournament.

While Jim Nantz had high praise for Phil Mickelson's incredible Master's victory, his words for Tiger Woods were far more critical during an interview with Mike Francesca of WFAN.

If I said what he said on the air, I would be fired. I read in the USA Today and it was called “mild language.” Someone on my broadcast dismissed it as him having a camera in his face. Well, guess what? Phil Mickelson had a camera in his face all week and did you even hear him come close to approaching that? He didn’t hit every shot the way he wanted. Have you ever heard Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus use that kind of language? What are the parameters between what’s right or wrong?"

To be fair the CBS camera (see video) caught Tiger Woods saying "You Suck, God Dammit." but as Nantz indicated in his quote the Masters 2010 champion did not use such language Jim Nantz said Tiger Woods profanity laced tirade would no bother him so much except Tiger had pledged to clean up his act but clearly didn't.

Let's see how Tiger Woods swing and swear words hold up at June's U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

Where was Jim Nantz all these years? Is he trying to kick somebody when he/she is way down in his/her life? This is crazy, is TWs worse than Janet Jackson? or some stupid actors who say anything on TV but not accounted for their actions. This is how media changes course from its legit work to the tabloids work. Can Jim Nantz tell us that he is saint or holy? God this is the twenty first century where you are entitled to spend the night watching those creepy #### movies. Haven’t you done that and try to act like one? This has been said not only once but many times from the CEOs to Political party leaders, from priests to house wives. What is different with TWs now? I bet you if you had 1% of TWs ‘ wealth, you would try to rule the world. Let’s be real and let the truth come out loud. Inferiority complex should not be our guidance and let the truth be told. Let’s see ourselves through the mirror and tell if we are flawless!!!!

johnd-Everyone has heard this language, OK? Does that make it OK to say, and we just dismiss it because he is one of the best athletes of our era? Here's the big difference as I see it. Tiger Woods has taken responsibility for some pretty bad behavior and has now "promised" us we would see and hear a different Tiger from now on. So now Jim Nantz is trying to hold him accountable for better behavior and you trash Jim. Tiger is under the microscope because of past behavior ( and the fact he makes billions of dollars doing something most of pay for) and his promise to do better. The truth be known I don't think Tiger is in possession of the Power to significantly change his angry outbursts. Until he goes to the root cause of his anger he will continue to struggle. Yes, I think his anger is at the root of his sexual addiction. He has anger issues and he finds he "medicates" the pain by having sexual affairs with multiple women. Just my opinion, but based on a great deal of study on sexual addictions. I totally understand why Tiger struggles in this area and am understanding of his problem. It is necessary though to be held accountable for bad behavior in order for the healing to take place. If you find this unbelievable then read what the s.a. experts are saying. Take it from someone who's been there, done that, but refused to buy the t-shirt.

Who is Jim Nantz to critisize any athlete? He is just some that is hired to announce a sporting event, what are his credentials? Just another white guy piling on an athlete in a sport he couldn't possibly play at this level.

Jim Nantz should be fined, suspended or fired by CBS. He should be working for CNN (Christian Naysayers Network) or head up the HLL (Hefty Lefty Lovers). What a douchbag. "Suck" is foul language? Is that an official CBS stance? What a prick. Nicklaus and Palmer didn't have new microphone technology in their faces back when Jim may have been relevant. How the hell does he know what those old dogs said? If it wasn't for the interest TW generates in his sport, he wouldn't get near the ratings for his networks' broadcasts. He should get another line of work or tell his boss to chill on the microphones. If Jimmy boy had the personal upheaval TW had in his life he would not be able to perform at all. Tiger showed up like a man and men are not perfect. Jim would be sequstered away from the public eye crying like a baby, unable to lift his head let alone a golf club. I didn't appoint Mr. Nantz arbiter of language and it should be treated with revulsion by the educated public. Tiger has to answer to someone or something--but it sure isn't you to remind him of his perceived shortcomings. F OFF JIM! (kudos to Nick Faldo for not taking the bait to bash and judge)

My father worked for CBS sports and Television for over 30 years as an audio engineer. It was common knowledge, even back in the 1960's, that the mixers/audio guys would "kill" the audio-turn the "pot" down- at certain very predictable moments during sporting events. The technicians, like my father, simply turned down the sound before the athletes would predictably swear or use profanity. Many athletes swear on a regular basis and the entire crew at the Masters simply got what they were looking for on live TV. Oh, and back in the 60's the CBS crews working golf tourneys all knew that the "king", Arnie himself...romanced as many young women as he had time for while on tour...OH...and yes Arnie was married and no one speaks of this. The same crews often covered JFK and also did not talk about JFK's romance with the late Marilyn Monroe either.  Time have changed indeed and Jim Nantz may wish to do a reality check sometime...just ask some of the old timers with the Sports Dept.
