Legendary CFL quarterback Ron Lancaster has died. The Pennsylvania-born Lancaster, known as "The Little General", was a high standout in the US but was ignored by the NFL because he stood only 5'5". He eventually joined the Ottawa Roughriders in 1960 and worked in some capacity for the CFL for the next 48 years as a coach, general manager, and broadcaster.
Ron Lancaster's story is the history of almost half a century of the Canadian Football League. He's done it all - from quarterback and head coach, to general manager and broadcaster. An American export turned Canadian hero, his was a triumph of skill and brains over brawn and bravado. An underdog who rose to glory in an underdog league, the "Little General" battled the odds to become a football legend.

This is sad. Even I knew who he was and I don't know much about football. 69 is so young too.
