Chad McDaniel dies from his injuries during USAC/SMRS race
Chad McDaniel, 34, has died from injuries sustained during the USAC/SMRS midget race last night in Knoxville, Iowa.
He suffered head and neck injuries and was transported to Knoxville Hospital and then airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, but died in the early hours of this morning. He leaves behind his wife Trish, and his two children Trevor and Taylor.
McDaniel was the leading SMRS Great Plains Midget Series driver when the accident happened. He had also scored five, top 10 finishes in six races since the beginning of the season.
"On behalf on the entire USAC Racing community, we are deeply saddened and carry heavy hearts today with the passing of Chad McDaniel" stated Kevin Miller, CEO of USAC Racing. "Our sport has lost a passionate racer today, and our sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to his family during these most difficult times."
"He was not only a friend, but a gentleman who loved his family and his sport," said John Stewart, President/CEO of USAC/SMRS Racing. "He will be deeply missed by all of us."
USAC is conducting an investigation into what caused the injuries and they have started a support fund.

RIP Chad. My son had known Chad for several years and my husband so enjoyed meeting and visiting with him about racing just a few weeks ago. At the local track hearts were heavy tonight as we remembered this wonderful family man, friend and competitor.

I feel a great lose after racing over 30 years and now racing 5 years with Chad I can not belive this happened. He and Nate are people I call my friends and I will miss him . I only hope his wife understands that he did leave her and there two children but he was living his life to the fullest and he never thought this would happen to him. He loved his family and they where never far away from his thoughts. He will miss his family every much as much as they will miss him. I will miss his freindly outgoing personality at every race. People like Chad don't come along but once in a liftime, I am just one of many that can say they knew him and I called him my friend.

I had the chance to have a working relationship with Chad. It was always a pleasant experience and as soon as business was finished, I enjoyed Chad even more as a great friend. I will miss Chad, but look forward to the day we will meet again in Heaven. Thank you for touching my life.
