Chad 'Ochocinco' Johnson Arrested For Domestic Violence
Recently married Chad Ochocinco (now known as Chad Johnson) was arrested in Davie, FL on Saturday evening (August 11) for a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.
The Miami Dolphins wide receiver and his newlywed wife, "Basketball Wives" star Evelyn Lozada, were unpacking groceries on Saturday night when she came across a receipt for a box of condoms in the trunk. The police report from the incident alleges that the two were sitting in the driveway of their home, arguing in their parked Smart Car, when Johnson grabbed Evelyn and headbutted her, states the Davie, Fla., police.
"I observed [redacted] to have a laceration on her forehead approximately 3'' in length," Officer Christopher Epps wrote in his arrest report.
On the other hand, Johnson, who police noted was absent of any visible marks or bruises, told responding officers that the two had accidentally bumped heads after getting into a "heated argument" over a receipt Lozada found in the car. The 34-year-old's version of events matched Evelyn's in that he acknowledged the receipt contained evidence of condom purchases.
TMZ's story on the incident says that Lozada was taken to the emergency room at West Side Regional Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and subsequently released this morning. She's now staying with a close friend.
Meanwhile a judge set Ochocinco's bond for $2,500, which he posted prior to being released Sunday morning. If convicted, the NFL star could face a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. He also has yet to face NFL officials including Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland, coach Joe Philbin and League Commissioner Roger Goodell.
A Dolphins spokesman gave the comment, "We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering all of the relevant information," in light of last night's events.
Chad and wife Evelyn have been ordered to have no contact. The pair will at least appear together on-screen when their new reality show premieres next month, as filming has already taken place.
Interestingly enough, it appears this is not Johnson's first brush with the law as far as domestic violence is concerned. The NY Daily News reports that the pro footballer was placed on probation and required to take anger management classes after getting into an altercation with an ex-girlfriend during college.
